10 Ways to Overcome Burnout

How to Overcome Burnout

Every day, I work with brilliant, motivated people who are at their edge. How to overcome burnout is a very common topic.

It’s different for everyone, but there are some changes you can make that are guaranteed to help.

How to Overcome Burnout

  1. Take care of your physical health. This means getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and exercising regularly. When you’re physically healthy, you’re better able to cope with stress and burnout.
  2. Set boundaries. Learn to say no to extra work or commitments that you don’t have time for. It’s important to protect your personal time and energy.
  3. Take breaks throughout the day. Get up and move around, or step outside for some fresh air. Taking short breaks can help you stay refreshed and focused.
  4. Delegate tasks. If you have too much on your plate, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Delegate tasks to your colleagues or subordinates so that you can lighten your workload.
  5. Take time off. If you’re feeling burned out, it’s important to take some time off from work. This could mean taking a vacation, sick leave, or even just a few days off to relax and recharge.
  6. Practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment without judgment. This can help you to reduce stress and anxiety and improve your overall well-being.
  7. Spend time with loved ones. Social connection is important for our mental health. Make time for the people who matter to you, and do activities that you enjoy together.
  8. Do something you enjoy. Make time for activities that you find relaxing and enjoyable. This could be reading, listening to music, spending time in nature, or anything else that takes your mind off of work.
  9. Seek professional help. If you’re struggling to overcome burnout on your own, don’t hesitate to seek professional help. A coach can help you to develop coping mechanisms and strategies for managing stress.
  10. Change jobs. If you’ve tried everything else and you’re still feeling burned out, it may be time to consider a change in jobs. This could mean finding a new job in a different field, or simply moving to a different company.
